1938 SWAT Truck Rebuild

Donation protected
Join us on this Journey! Long before the SWAT acronym appeared in the media, special vehicles were built for law enforcement crises situations.  As part of preserving bits of Americana, the Cops-n-Rodders car club wants to rebuild this 1-ton 1938 International Harvester vehicle so that it will be road worthy and safe to drive in parades (pictured here as it appeared at the Ramsey County Sheriff's outside storage facility.)
When the rebuilt vehicle is drive-able; it will be available for the St. Paul Police K-9 Foundation's and law enforcement agencies' community outreach activities as well as for local car shows exhibiting rebuilt vehicles of yesteryear.   A great part of Americana history that came about because of prohibition and the attendant  'gangster era.'
The $15,000 of requested donations will be used to buy parts and materials for the rebuild. Members of the car club will provide the labor and facilities for the work - we estimate about 2 years for the effort as donations are received.  The largest challenge will be to replicate the 2" thick windows with cranking mechanisms and 'gun' ports.  With the dis-assembly already underway, donations beginning April 1st would be appreciated so that the rebuild manager can schedule ordering of time critical parts.  Then as parts and materials become available we can schedule volunteers to do the skilled detail rebuild work.
Cops-n-Rodders Car Club is a division of the St. Paul Police K-9 Foundation.  Cops-n-Rodders has also been associated with the Minnesota Street Rod Association for two+ decades.  The Club and foundation [501(c)3]will be quite appreciative of donations to bring this historic armored vehicle back to life - the journey has started!  The journey will continue as donated funding facilitates obtaining or rebuilding body and drive-train parts. Then a lot of volunteer work re-assembling and attaching state required items such as turn signals. There will be details of metal skin patching, sanding, and  painting to reach the journey's end of showcasing at public functions.
Monthly rebuild progress status will be posted on the Club's web site, www.copsnrodders.us. For example: 1) On 2/26/2018 the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office donated the vehicle to the Car Club.  2) On March 1, 2018 the vehicle was moved from the storage lot to the rebuild facility. 3) On March 3, the rotted wood floorboards and rotted wood side panels were removed.
Thank you for joining us on this rebuild JOURNEY!
