Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic on Monday, March 16, Sweetwater had to make the tough choice of limiting it's staff to bare minimum while still offering to provide some sort of income to staff still willing to work on rotation.
Yesterday, the 19th of March we had to make the even tougher decision and close our doors, and lay off our entire FOH/BOH staff of 25 family members. We all have been in pretty good spirits about this whole situation but we know that reality will hit us in the coming weeks as we have completely lost our income. Not only are people being advised to not go to restaurants/bars, there has been a mandated executive order to close our doors.
Most of us live on a week to week, even day to day income. We do not have salaries or paid leave, we've worked for the generosity of our amazing patrons over the 9 years we've been open.
I pride myself on retaining employees and have had less than 3% turn over the near decade we've been open. They are my team, they are my family. I have grown so close to them to call them my brothers and sisters. I am asking family, friends, patrons...anybody that has had a marriage proposal, a first date, a divorce party or simply a great experience at our restaurant to donate anything to help support this misfit group during these unprecedented times.
Seriously, anything helps.
