Child Care Champions Needed in Arroyo Grande!

Our Future Leaders of Arroyo Grande need your help.
Since the State's mandate issued on July 17, 2020 restricting in-person school instruction, working families have been forced to assume extreme financial burdens. The choice is radical: pay $195/child per week to send children to a safe, supervised program where distance learning is encouraged and supported, or stay home and join a growing list of unemployed.

Our community needs a safety net for our families and youth. Funding is needed to provide scholarships to offset child care costs so that parents and caregivers can return to work. Children need consistent and supportive environments to feel safe, valued and championed while navigating the new distance learning public education format. As all of society struggles with the reality of COVID-19, children's safety, primary education and future are at stake.

Contributing to this campaign will support the children of essential personnel, first responders, front-line staff and children of small business owners. Raised funds will offset weekly registration fees for the Enrichment Lab , a distance learning program inclusive of art, music, and outdoor play. The program follows all guidelines set forth by the CDC and County Public Health Department and also allows the opportunity for children to play in a safe, supervised and caring environment. To receive funds raised through this campaign, families are asked to complete a scholarship application, and awards are determined on a first-come first-serve basis. By rallying behind our families and showing support in these times of hardship, we can positively shape our community's future. Our future leaders are depending on us to ensure their safety and provide educational resources and support.

It takes a village. Every dollar that is raised through this campaign will support local families to send their children to the City of Arroyo Grande's Enrichment Lab, a distance learning program for children in Kindergarten through 6th Grade. This program was designed in partnership with Lucia Mar School District to support distance learning and engage in enrichment activities while remaining in pods of 14 children or less. This program, offered at Ocean View and Branch Elementary schools, offers kiddos the chance to learn in a structured environment while receiving guidance to manage school schedules, zoom schedules and assignments.

On August 25th, the City of Arroyo Grande adopted a new fee for the Enrichment Lab program to meet the needs of families and provide child care at lower costs. The Lucia Mar Unified School District is also providing free facility use and increased janitorial services. In conjunction with the school district, this program also provides three meals per day per child. We are working together to meet the needs of our future leaders, won't you join us?

Children's well-being and education cannot be an afterthought, we must plan ahead and assist to provide affordable child care. Children need support for mental well-being, physical exercise and emotional health. Families are already struggling to pay for rent, let alone child care to replace normal school hours. The balance to work at home WHILE educating their children is also not realistic nor possible for everyone. Choices for families are limited due to the pandemic, but children will not be given a second chance. The time to act is now.

The Time is NOW.
Children in our community need us now. The school year has begun and we cannot let them down. Parents who may otherwise not have child care options, need our support to return to their careers and livelihood; providing food, shelter and foundation to our economy. In order for this to happen, we need to help support the base of our society-our families and our next generation of leaders. This fundraiser aims to provide 20 families with a 50% scholarship through December, 2020. With your help, we can provide the resources to the families who need it most; the future of our community depends on the success of all of our children. It has been said that 'it takes a village to raise a child', and we need our village now more than ever. You can help! Be a part of the solution and help local families with child care costs during this pandemic. Please join us in supporting our future leaders-every dollar counts! If you prefer to mail a check, checks may be addressed to: The City of Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department, 1221 Ash Street Arroyo Grande, CA 93420.
