Rico's Cancer Treatment Campaign

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Rico, the truffle hunter and I need to tell you…
My parents… they have the blues.
Yep, they just got the news.

They’re sad.
Because the news was bad.

Looks like its cancer.
Yes that was the lab’s answer.

My vet says if I get chemo treatments,
Perhaps I'll have more truffle hunting achievements.

They cry, Oh why?

                         Why?

                              Why?

Rico’s too young to say goodbye!

The chemo gold standard is 26 weeks,
And that’s exactly what my oncologist seeks.

So please tell my parents to not shed more tears.
This treatment will give me additional years!

It can put this lymphoma into remission
And bring my truffle hunting dreams to fruition

Your generous donations will keep me in motion,
I’ll keep visiting my veterans, they say I’m their magic potion.

Please, make your donation today!

                              Large or small

my treatment will use it all!
Until a couple weeks ago I thought my biggest worry was figuring out where to get my haircut and a mani/pedi during Covid19 closures.  But now, 2020 has become even more memorable for our family.   I was grooming Rico a couple weeks ago and felt a palpable lymph node below his mandible which was large enough that I suspected he had a virus or something.  I decided to let the vet take a look and his vet was concerned enough to aspirate the gland and send a sample to the lab.  The very next day, I was feeling his neck again only this time it felt like he had a gigantic pearl necklace wrapped around the front!  I was still in denial until I saw a large red bruise appear on his belly, for no apparent reason and then I felt multiple engorged lymph nodes all over his body.  I knew then, the lab result wasn’t going to be good. Two days later the diagnosis: stage 3 or 4 intermediate to high grade lymphoma.  This is a very aggressive form of cancer and I could see that Rico was becoming more symptomatic every day.

I’ll spare you all the details of my challenge getting an appointment with a veterinary oncologist. I could not believe how busy these offices are. I’m not sure exactly how I convinced one office, but they were willing to double book and get Rico in that very day!  I now call this technician, Rico’s angel!

They felt it was important for Rico to start his treatment that very day.  Jump right in on the treatment versus spend more time and money further staging the lymphoma.  Of course, we agreed.  I think everyone knows what Rico means to us and you guys know we would do anything for Mister Britches!  We hope to have him around for many more truffle seasons!  He’s been such a successful truffle hunter, driven in his adventures, yet kind and loving at home and on his visits with Bill's veterans, a wonderful, patient father to Zara, and truffle hunt teacher to many other dogs, even a pot belly pig.

Those who have had the pleasure of interacting with him know what a happy dog he is!

We are grateful and thank you in advance for whatever donation you can make for his treatment.  Every little bit adds up.
