We are starting a scholarship fund to honor our beloved Alfredo Ardila, a brilliant neuropsychologist, writer, professor, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. The scholarship will honor his memory by helping students of Latin-American descent who are studying neuropsychology. The exact details are still to be determined. This fundraiser is being run by Alfredo's family.

Dr. Alfredo Ardila was a lifelong academic who first studied psychology in Colombia and later received a doctoral degree in neuropsychology under the mentorship of Alexander Romanovich Luria from Lomonosov Moscow State University. He brought neuropsychology to Latin America and was instrumental in establishing recognition of Latin American contributions to the field.
He was a giant in his field and a pioneer with his work in the science of cognition: developing original models of brain organization of executive functions, a novel classification of aphasias, and the foundations of cross-cultural neuropsychology, among many others. He had an absolutely unique perspective and an unmatched ability to turn ideas into actions. Over the course of his career, he produced over 50 authored and edited books, seven neuropsychological assessment batteries, almost 500 published peer reviewed papers (with close to 25,000 citations), and hundreds of conference presentations. He was also a prolific educator and his legacy will be continued by the hundreds of students he mentored in the United States, Latin America, Spain, and Russia.
Alfredo was an enthusiastic learner who valued not only writing about and exploring new ideas, but also sharing that knowledge with those interested in learning. He instilled passion and generosity in all of this work and made almost his entire life's work available online for free. He was always encouraging to colleagues and students, and truly cared about making his industry and the world a better place. His passion for his work, for standards of professional responsibility in all, and for the mission of understanding and helping all of humanity in its vast diversity, is legendary.
Even after receiving many academic awards and recognitions during his professional career, he remained a humble man with an excellent sense of humor who also loved to sing and dance. His favorite hobby was to learn about how people lived in other places and time periods, so he spent a lot of time studying history and travelling the world.
Above all, he was a family man. He was a loving husband, a proud and dedicated father, and an adoring grandfather. He made great efforts to bring family together and always emphasized the importance of heritage.
We will honor him and the legacy he left behind by cultivating opportunities to learn and expand our knowledge, as he always did in his life. We hope that this scholarship will accomplish that while supporting future generations of neuropsychologists.

El Dr. Alfredo Ardila fue un académico toda su vida. Estudió psicología en Colombia y luego obtuvo su doctorado en neuropsicología bajo la dirección de Alexander Romanovich Luria, en la Universidad Estatal de Moscú, Lomonosov. Él fue quien trajo la neuropsicología a América Latina y fue clave para que se lograra el reconocimiento de las contribuciones de América Latina en este campo.
Alfredo fue un gigante en su campo y un pionero con su trabajo en la ciencia de la cognición al desarrollar modelos originales de la organización cerebral de las funciones ejecutivas; una novedosa clasificación de las afasias y los fundamentos de la neuropsicología transcultural. Tenía una perspectiva absolutamente única y una gran habilidad para convertir las ideas en acciones. Durante su carrera publicó unos 50 libros de su autoría, 7 baterías de evaluación neuropsicológica y casi 500 artículos revisados por pares (con unas 25.000 citas), además realizó cientos de presentaciones en conferencias y congresos profesionales alrededor del mundo. El Dr. Ardila fue también un prolífico educador. Su legado será continuado por los cientos de estudiantes que asesoró en los EE. UU., Latinoamérica, España y Rusia
Alfredo fue un aprendiz entusiasta que no solo valoraba escribir y explorar nuevas ideas sino también el compartir ese conocimiento con quienes estuvieran interesados en aprender. Le imprimió pasión y generosidad a todo su trabajo e hizo que casi todo el trabajo de su vida estuviera disponible de manera gratuita en internet. Siempre estaba animando a sus colegas y estudiantes y se preocupó porque el mundo fuera un mejor lugar. La pasión por su trabajo, por los estándares de la responsabilidad profesional y por la misión de comprender y ayudar a la humanidad en esta gran diversidad es legendaria.
Aún después de recibir muchos premios académicos y reconocimientos durante su carrera profesional, seguía siendo un hombre sencillo con un excelente sentido del humor a quien le gustaba cantar y bailar. Su afición favorita era aprender cómo vivía la gente en otros lugares y épocas y por ello pasó mucho tiempo estudiando historia y viajando por el mundo.
Pero entre todo fue un hombre familiar. Esposo amoroso, padre orgulloso y dedicado y abuelo adorable. Hizo grandes esfuerzos por reunir a toda la familia y siempre enfatizaba en la importancia de la herencia cultural.
Lo honraremos a él y al legado que nos deja, cultivando oportunidades para aprender y expandir nuestro conocimiento como él siempre lo hizo durante su vida. Tenemos la esperanza de que esta beca cumpla con este propósito mientras apoyamos a futuras generaciones de neuropsicólogos.
