Marlin Fire truck restoration

Donation protected
I am looking for support to restore this Fire Trucks built Marlin airport crash rescue truck.

I feel that this truck should be restored to a condition where it can attend shows and events as well as being used to raise funds for local charities as well as the firefighters charity here in the UK.

The Marlin was a low volume truck with only 7 examples known to be built. This particular truck was the first to be constructed and the only one built by Fire Trucks Ltd before they were taken over by Reynolds Boughton, it also appears to be the last survivor.
When the Marlin range was revealed to the public in 1989 it was a futuristic looking vehicle as well as being highly advanced technologically compared to the other Crash tenders on the market at the time. You can still see the legacy of this when looking at many of the most modern airport fire truck that still take the styling queues from the Marlin.

My purchase of the truck was a decision made by the heart and a desire to prevent such a rare piece of British engineering from being consigned to the scarp yard. I also now believe that this Marlin marks an important milestone in the history of airport firefighting. Alas however my original estimation of the cost of preserving the truck was far to low.

So far the project to save and preserve the Marlin has cost slightly over £20,000 funded solely by myself and is currently expected to cost in the region of £50-60,000. I regularly post videos on YouTube of the work i have been doing on the Project Marlin channel.

Mechanically the truck is in mostly working order and the chassis is in good condition, the cab however needs most of the front and floor framework replacing as well as all of the floor sheet steel at a cost of around £1000, we also need to remove the bonded windscreen as the bottom of the frame has disintegrated. If we cannot save the glass it will need to be replaced at a cost of £3-5000.

Additional costs are also starting to build up, for example a replacement set of 6 Michelin XS tyres will cost over £14,000 and if a second hand joystick for the foam monitor can not be sourced a new unit is around £1000.

Some of the other large expenses coming up are:
Replacement of floor and roof covering in cab.
Replacement of corroded air filter housings.
Diagnosis and repair of centre drive axle.
Repaint of bodywork.

Your support will mean the world to me and to many of the people that built her and used her throughout her working life. It will also allow the Marlin to be used to help raise money for charity at local and possibly national events.

It is my plan to list the name of our benefactors on a page of our website www.projectmarlin.co.uk
